Yesterday was amazing. You guys went into a voting frenzy for weshadows.com! We actually made it into the top 10 web comics, reaching #7! Of course, it wasn’t long lived (it’s a blood bath at the top) but really an amazing accomplishment.
To put this in perspective, weshadows.com only gets 7,000-12,000 hits a day (which is great for such a young site) but, at this level, we’re competing with webcomics that get 100,000+ a day and have been building a fan base for years.
So pat yourselves on you collective backs and please keep voting! The link is in the right column.
… Is it weird that I read webcomics for the sake of the webcomics, and not for the sake of their ranking on some ridiculously competitive numbered list?
In fact, I generally avoid the top 10 on the grounds that they usually got that way from near-pornographic voting incentives and endless amounts of shallow “fan-service” nonsense. Usually.
I read a lot of webcomics, but the fact remains that I can only vote for one… and with just about every webcomic on the list practically screaming for votes, I do find it more than a little off-putting. The one I vote for pretty much never actually asks for votes… which helps.
From a cartoonist POV it’s all business. I know when I am in the top 10 I get thousands of more veiwers. If I get more viewers then i will have more people buying my books. If I have more people buying my books I get to feed my family off of the thing I love doing the most.
