Karma? Or Dharma? For it seems this *is* her role to play…

        (Sorry. Couldn’t resist.)

    I wouldn’t believe him… or trust him.
    But she’s stupid enough to.

Hungry for power = stupid, it’s all the same ^^

Over-indulgence of any kind is stupid. Power, in and of itself, is just power. A baby learns to crawl to gain power over immobility. It’s when you get too greedy that it become abhorrent.

    How ironic…
First he makes her pretty and now he offers her power in change of her beauty.
She said she wanted to be pretty again but, what will she choose?
(power I´m sure but i don´t see her very good as a pagliaci, but she was horrible before sooo..)

Yep, I can give you you want OR what’s behind door number 2!

Which brings us back to his initial remark to her: “Such concern for beauty when all you wanted was power.” He’s giving her a tough choice, but I don’t see that the theatre troupe has given a good sell of the offer. Of course, we’ve already seen her choice in the preview. 🙂

I’m working my way through my Blu-Ray set of Star Trek. This reminded me of the episode “Is There in Truth No Beauty?” Of course, they never actually *showed* us the face ugly enough to drive people mad.

Really? Is that from the original series?

Yup. It’s eposode 5 of season 3, on the Blu-Ray set at least.

A really silly example of the theme was an episode of the Goscinny/Tabary comic Iznogoud, with a woman whose face would make people freeze to ice from fear. Again, we obviously didn’t get to see it, though the final panel implies that the artist Tabary froze to ice trying to draw it. 🙂

Cool. Yeah, this story doesn’t go in either of those directions. Wait and see. Wait and see. 🙂

So the mask will disfigure her already faked, glamoured up appearance? She was pretty unsightly as a hobgoblin and being made even more ugly would be bad but wouldn’t again, glamour be able to mask over it?

Basically the mask spell is trumping the glamour spell

So. . . why restore her beauty before giving her this choice? If she had remained a ugly hobgoblin, it would have been a fairly simple choice.

Why am I reminded Alaska Saedelaere now? 🙂

Never read it. What’s his relevant significance to this?

That’s a character in an everlong German SciFi series called Perry Rhodan. In a nutshell Alaska’s face is kind of distorted by another organism and anyone looking at him goes mad which forces him to wear a mask. So it’s not the mask that has power but the thing on/in his face. I just thought it was a nice parallel.

But she’s already ugly… Can’t she just get more glamour when she decides to remove the mask…?

Depends on how powerful the mask spell is. And since both the glamour spell and the mask spell come from the same source (Keshi) the glamour would be gone.

        Ooh, I get it. Tough.
But, if I was me, I’d plan to use my mask powers to collect vast amounts of glamour from other sources… Then again, I’m not sure exactly how glamour works… Is this going to be explained at some point in the story??

Her current Glamour came from Keshi as well as the mask. The Mask spell is going to override the glamour spell. She might be able to find more glamour but that’s not easily achieved (glamour not like pixie dust, where you just shake a pixie over your head, think happy thoughts and fly). The Glamour Gloms were able to drain glamour from captured Faeries but only because those Faeries became sleepy at the start of the Industrial Age so they were easily captured. They’ve woken quite a bit with the coronation of the new Puck (Goat). They still get tired easy but are more aware than before.

            Oh! Thanks.
Can I ask something else? Where there any glamour gloms that… didn’t care much about how they looked are remained peaceful and ugly through the Industrial age?? 🙂

Yeah. The Gloms were just greedy hobgoblins. There were some hobgoblins who didn’t become Gloms.
